Grover Beach sport courts and playgrounds will be open for public use from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. beginning Oct. 28, 2026, under hours adopted by the City Council. The change follows noise concerns involving active park amenities near residents, including the Mentone Basin Park pickleball courts and the new Ramona Garden Park playground.
What changes Oct. 28
Sport courts will be open for public use from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Playgrounds will be open for public use from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The city says general park hours will remain 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. under the Grover Beach Municipal Code. The dedicated hours were approved through an ordinance at the City Council’s Sept. 28 meeting, after discussions by the Parks, Recreation, and Beautification Commission in June and the City Council in July.
New signage at the Mentone Basin Park pickleball courts will encourage players to use sound-mitigating equipment, such as acoustic paddles, to help reduce play noise. The signs will include information about where players can find noise-reduction equipment, and updated signs displaying the hours are being installed across city parks.
Our parks are vital spaces for exercise, play and community gathering, but it is equally important that we respect the peace and quality of life for residents living right next to them.
City staff and members of the Parks, Recreation, and Beautification Commission will review the impact of the new hours in 2027 to determine whether additional adjustments are needed.
