ANNAPOLIS, Md., June 22 (DC Times Online) — Maryland election officials removed Ian Andre Roberts from the state’s voter rolls on June 2 after registration records showed he had been listed for more than a decade and had been registered twice, according to state records cited in recent reporting.

Republican Delegate Matt Morgan, who chairs the Maryland House Freedom Caucus, said the delay shows why “Marylanders have lost faith in our elections.” He said the case underscores the need for stronger safeguards in the state’s voter-registration system.

The Maryland registration forms reviewed in the reports show Roberts checked the citizenship box and signed under penalty of perjury twice. The records do not show whether he cast a ballot in Maryland.

Maryland elections administrator Jared DeMarinis previously warned against “improper cancellation” of voter registrations, a concern he raised as officials reviewed how to remove ineligible names without affecting eligible voters.
