WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was admitted to a Washington hospital on the morning of June 14, his office said, and remained engaged with Senate business two days later.

David Popp, McConnell’s spokesperson, said the 84-year-old senator was “receiving excellent care.” Popp did not disclose why McConnell was hospitalized, and the senator’s office did not identify the hospital.

Popp told CBS News on June 16 that McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

The hospitalization is McConnell’s second this year. In February, Popp said McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation on the night of Feb. 2 after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the prior weekend.

McConnell was discharged on Feb. 10, according to Popp. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
