WASHINGTON, July 16 (DC Times Online) — Michigan health officials say lettuce or salad greens are the main foods under review in a cyclospora outbreak investigation that has also drawn federal and state scrutiny of Taco Bell, but no brand or supplier has been named.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said current results point to lettuce or salad greens as a possible source, while other food items cannot be ruled out. The department said it has not identified a specific type of produce, grower, supplier or brand.

The Washington Post reported, citing two people familiar with the probe, that federal and state health officials are investigating whether Taco Bell restaurants played a role. Taco Bell said in a statement to Fox Business that public health officials have not confirmed a link to the chain or to any specific ingredient, supplier, restaurant or retailer.

The company said it temporarily removed limited ingredients at select restaurants as a precaution while it monitors the situation. Fox Business also reported that the Food and Drug Administration had not announced a Taco Bell recall and that no public notice on the agency’s website named the chain.
