WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — Visitors to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington will be able to enter the monument’s long-hidden undercroft for the first time on June 25, when the National Park Service opens the 15,000-square-foot space to the public.

The park service says the undercroft has been hidden since the memorial opened in 1922. It will feature interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations on the memorial’s construction and its role in American history and civil rights.

Admission will be free, but the park service says timed-entry tickets are required and carry a $1 service fee for advance reservations. Tickets can be booked through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777.

Same-day tickets will be distributed starting at 8:45 a.m. at the Korean War Veterans Memorial kiosk on Daniel Chester French Drive, just south of the Lincoln Memorial, according to the park service.

The project is being funded in partnership with the National Park Foundation, the park service said. The opening adds a new timed-entry stop on the National Mall as Washington prepares for a major round of 250th-anniversary programming in 2026.
