NEW ORLEANS, June 27 (DC Times Online) — James Carville said Democrats should consider a party “schism” after New York primary wins by candidates backed by Zohran Mamdani, saying he cannot stay in the same party with Darializa Avila Chevalier.

On a Politicon podcast appearance, as reported by Fox News, Carville said, “I actually do think it’s time for Democrats to talk the ‘s’ word: schism. I really do.” He also said he was “done” and added that candidates with those views should “start your own movement” or “form your own party.”

Carville singled out Avila Chevalier after comments he attributed to her about interracial relationships and the American flag. He said he did not want to be in a party that denies Israel’s right to exist.

The remarks came after news reports said Avila Chevalier won a Democratic primary in New York and unseated Rep. Adriano Espaillat. Other reported winners included Claire Valdez over Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Brad Lander over Rep. Dan Goldman.

Carville has also warned in a New York Times op-ed that the Democratic Party was moving toward a “civilized civil war,” saying it was necessary but should be delayed until after the 2026 midterm elections.
