HANOVER, Pa., July 3 (Our New York News) — New York shoppers who bought certain Zapp’s or Dirty potato chips face the FDA’s most serious recall designation after the agency upgraded the products to Class I over a possible salmonella risk tied to a seasoning ingredient.
The FDA says a Class I recall means there is a reasonable probability that use of or exposure to the product could cause serious health consequences or death. Utz, the maker of the chips, said the recall began in May from “an abundance of caution” and traced the issue to dry milk powder from a third party used in the seasoning.
Utz said at the time that no salmonella had been found in its products and that it had received no illness complaints connected to the recalled chips. The company told consumers not to eat the products and to discard them, and FDA recall materials place the affected chips in multiple states, including New York.
